Iran’s Diplomatic Moves
Iran is not just preparing for war, but also working on diplomatic solutions. Iran’s president visited Qatar and met with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister. Reports say that Gulf countries have promised to stay neutral—they won’t side with Israel or Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister traveled to Lebanon, even though Israeli airstrikes were happening there. This shows that Iran is trying to keep its relationships strong with its neighbors.
Lebanon, a country where much of the fighting is happening, is important to Iran. Lebanon has two main groups: its civilian government and Hezbollah, a military group supported by Iran. The Lebanese Prime Minister has said he’s willing to stop Hezbollah’s fighting in exchange for peace, but Iran may not like this idea because they want Lebanon and Hezbollah to stay united.
Military Preparations
Iran’s military is also getting ready. However, unlike Israel, Iran does not have very advanced air defense systems. They mainly rely on older Russian-made weapons like the S-300 missile system. Iran has also built its own defenses, but in April, Israel managed to break through and destroy some of these defenses.
In preparation for a possible Israeli attack, satellite images show that Iran has moved its oil tankers away from a key terminal to protect them. This oil terminal handles 90% of Iran’s oil exports, so protecting it is important for Iran’s economy.
